Kenneth Johnson attempted to do with Alien Nation what Joss Whedon did with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Capture a mediocre movie and effect a series that had heart, soul, and a mythology all it’s maintain. If Alien Nation: The Series had been allowed to continue for a few more seasons, I have no doubt that it would have become one of those narrative series that are now piece of the American psyche. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled after objective one season, but what a season it was! I am so overjoyed that it is finally coming out on DVD! I objective hope that the movies will eventually be released as well!
It may be the “Complete Series” but does not include the four TV Movies made in later years.

The Blu-ray Disc includes the Theatrical Version and the Unrated, Extended Carve. We watched the ‘Extended Cut’ and were not disappointed. They spared no change in producing this film. If you want to gawk the best your Blu-ray system can verbalize, then examine no further. It was extraordinarily beautiful—almost 3D like. I’m left to contemplate of some of the snow scenes and how I felt I could near out and grasp the giant snowflakes—how I reached for a throw, suddenly feeling a chill.

I notion Tag Wahlberg did a aesthetic job portraying Payne. I was immediately drawn into the storyline with him seeking those responsible for the brutal murders of his wife and baby and how he was willing to die to avenge their deaths. His pain and inflame were palpable and justifiable.
I’ve enjoyed Max Payne video games and I don’t feel that they did an injustice to the gaming fans, with this production. I could easily translate Effect Wahlberg’s character and the setting, into that of the games.

I did have to suspend disbelief regarding the pharmaceutical company and, ‘the drug.’ This is why I took off one star. For example, every person who takes a hallucinogenic drug will not have the same hallucinations, so I was a exiguous baffled by the titanic winged creatures that appeared to be everyone’s’ side-effect, but they looked really cold, so I almost forgive them.
Several have said they felt there were unimaginative moments, but I have to say I was on the edge of my seat for the entire 103 minutes. Perhaps I would not have felt so obvious about the movie, itself, if it had not been such a spectacular AV experience. But considering the complete package, I do recommend you give it a try. You might want to rent it first, before buying, since this one seems rather polarizing with folks either liking it a lot, or hating it.
- About Max Payne, on the day his family was murdered: “He was, maybe, ten minutes too slow.”
- About me, on the day I sat down to perceive this movie: “He was around one hour forty-three minutes too early.”
Whoever Notice Wahlberg’s agent is, dude needs to acquire dragged to the encourage of the woodshed. Wahlberg’s film choices in ‘08 have not been what you’d call career noble. Firstly, M. Night Shamalamadingdong screwed the pooch with THE HAPPENING, and then there’s this skunker. I haven’t ever played the MAX PAYNE video game, and, truth is, this cinematic adaptation is honest the kind of thing which might assign off potential players of the game. MAX PAYNE the movie is so @$#%! terrible that I’m compelled to inject punctuation marks to emphasize how truly poor it is.
Wahlberg over the years has built up a gather for pleasurable acting; dude was even recently Oscar-nominated for his role in THE DEPARTED. He’s not the worse thing in MAX PAYNE, but it distinct doesn’t wait on that he sleepwalks thru his role. Mostly, he rolls with one expression, which is this frozen, sorta pained perceive, as if his co-actors were always breaking wind around him. Wahlberg is NYPD Detective Max Payne, currently toiling away in the lowly Cool Case Department, elegant mighty relegated to “glorified file clerk” duties. Echoing the assist myth of the Punisher, the Crow and others of that sad ilk, Max’s wife and baby had been murdered and Max won’t rest until he gets his ungodly smite on. But the flow is wintry, the clues are faint. Max has withdrawn into himself and has alienated gorgeous worthy everyone around him, including his one-time cop partner, who Max thinks hasn’t done enough in solving the case.
Some headway is finally made when a connection is unearthed between the kill of Max’s family and the modern slaying of a slinky party girl whom Max had the night before taken home. And when Max’s partner is brutally whacked, Max himself becomes the distinguished suspect. Vaguely teaming up with Mona Sax (Mila Kunis), a Russian assassin and the vengeful sister of the slain girl, Max haunts Unusual York’s criminal underworld, tangling with fellow badges, a shady pharmaceutical corporation, and homocidal drugged-out thugsters. But what gets me is that, the whole time, Wahlberg carries that same vaguely distressed expression. What, did the film’s catering produce it Burrito Night every night?
The SIN CITY-inspired visuals stare friendly, no doubt, and there are even several flashy bullet time sequences. But, in a plot, that cheeses me ever more, because, seems to me, if the filmmakers can pay so powerful attention on the special effects and the slick cinematography, why couldn’t they focus unprejudiced a smidgen on the legend, which is always the most crucial component? As it is, MAX PAYNE dies a dumb, agonizing death, the final verdict rendering it a thing of style over substance, some lipstick on a pig, moonlight on a pile of poo.
All the diagram thru, the film persists in its unpleasant choices. The meander is slothful, the script is all over the location, and characters inch on and off the cover like you’re supposed to already know who they are (and I guess you would if you’ve played the game) . But, for too powerful time, I wasn’t positive on exactly who that cat was being played by a doughy-looking Chris McDonnell (who I guess wreaked havoc on Burrito Nights) . The camera several times makes it a point to briefly lop to McDonnell’s nervous mug, but until his sizable office scene, not distinguished detail is provided regarding this guy, leaving me horrified and musing who the hell is this doofus? And what was the deal with the venerable woman who happens to be CEO of that dubious pharmaceutical company? Impartial how deep was she into shady shenanigans? The film leaves us in the dim. It’s stuff like that, which smacks of lack of attention to detail, which helps to torpedo the film.
Mila Kunis simply feels out of status. Worsely, she isn’t given worthy to do, other than occasionally spit some Russian dialogue and lope with flair in her leathers and grand, colossal gun. Olga Kurylenko, the latest Bond girl, shows up for a nanosecond, but then I believe her agent called with some pointed career advice. Hip hop artist Ludacris shows up and tries to sink into his role and derive serious about acting, except that when your character’s name is Lt. J. Bravura, who’re you really foolin’? Beau Bridges is also here, probably having told his puny brother “Whatever you can do, blah blah blah.” But he’s got nothing on Jeff.
The trailers cheated us into thinking that there actually may be an otherworldy element to this thing, in the beget of creepy shadow angels skittering about. Except that they turn out to be mere side-effects of this experimental hallucinatory drug, which by the method happens to be at the crux of this whole mess. There’s a dispirited, soul-numbing tone in MAX PAYNE which wore on me and do me in a bleak mood (I was this terminate to putting on dismal clothes and a beret, changing my name to Olaf, and composing poetry that neither rhymed nor made sense) . For folks who delight in wallowing in that sort of emotional scene, stick around until after the credits for one last scene which, O Unfathomable God, may be setting up for a possible sequel.
The DVD offers two versions of the film, the theatrical version and the unrated version. If you’re wondering which one to witness, hint: the theatrical version is SHORTER. To be fine, the last half hour does occupy up the slouch as the filmmakers finally shake themselves out of their stupor and realize that, hey, this is supposed to be an action thriller. So, that’s something. But, for Trace Wahlberg’s sake, THE BRAZILIAN JOB can’t advance like a flash enough.
Oh, and if you’re gonna handcuff someone, clap them suckers on with their hands late the encourage. That’s like, Basic Apprehending 101, brother.

If you are expecting action sequences and seriousness like in FMP the first raid, you will be disappointed…almost nothing of that sort is in this series..but this series wasn’t meant for that. It was meant to execute you LOL. Trust me you will crack up at the stuff Kaname and Sousuke go through (or cause!) The episodes are always always amusing, never a lifeless moment. TRUST ME! There is a bit of violence (like fights and stuff) but nothing like in the first FMP. There is a lot of fan service, but no nudity (almost!) and some abominable language. The anime has no valid fable line (objective the day in the life I guess of Sousuke and Kaname), but like I said, it was never meant for that. It was fair meant to design you laugh and definitely worth the engage. Recommended to 13yrs and up.
This is one of my common anime series of all time. I’ve had this collection for about a month and not only have I watched it repeatedly, but I’ve shown it to all of my friends and now they all want it! This thinpack boxset is a expansive value over buying the series individually.

Knuffle Bunny is enormous, it’s awesome – but it’s only 5 minutes long. The Scholastic Storybook Treasures feature a “main event” that gets you to steal the disc. Then they enjoy the rest of the DVD like the undercard of a major boxing match. The second memoir – “Afraid Violet” is very honorable also. Two proper stories, but the remaining stories are quite unimaginative. At least, my three and a half year outmoded conception so. Knuffle Bunny and Tremulous Violet are worth the stamp, unprejudiced don’t request the burly DVD to be as safe as Knuffle Bunny.
Knuffle Bunny is a incredible memoir to portion with young children and this video enhances the legend by making it even more special. They all laughed when she started bawling and her daddy tried to screen with her tedious a tree. They all also know what going ‘boneless” meant and many admitted that they had gone “boneless” more than once. The cherish between father and daughter shines knowing, making this a must have video for lovers of the book.

In 1996, Hugh Wilson directed a very laughable comedy about three friends that were all dumped by their husbands for younger women in the film “First Wives Club”. Based upon the 1992 original of the same name by Olivia Goldsmith (1949-2004), the three friends (who had met in college) are brought encourage together after their fourth friend, Cynthia Swann Griffin (Stockard Channing), jumped from her penthouse apartment in Manhattan after her husband left and she felt totally alone. Upon learning about each others similar marital problems, the surviving friends, which include the boisterous Brenda Cushman (Bette Midler), the movie actress Elise Elliot (Goldie Hawn) and the skittish Annie Paradis (Diane Keaton), settle to work together to do vengence upon their ex-husbands. Brenda’s ex-husband, Morton ‘Morty’ Cushman (Dan Hedaya), wants to marry the very young and shallow Shelly Stewart (Sarah Jessica Parker) . Elise’s ex-husband, Bill Atchison (Victor Garber), is dating the very young aspiring actress Phoebe LaVelle (Elizabeth Berkley) . Annie’s separated husband, Aaron Paradis (Stephen Collins), is having an affair with Annie’s therapist, Dr. Leslie Rosen (Marcia Ecstatic Harden) . To help them, the trio of first wives enlist succor from their friends, which include the interior decorator Duarto Feliz (Bronson Pinchot), Annie’s daughter Chris Paradis (Jennifer Dundas), the socialite Gunilla Garson Goldberg (Maggie Smith) and Brenda’s Uncle Carmine (Philip Bosco) .
Though the position was somewhat conventional and the acting and cloak writing were not Oscar-worthy, “First Wives Club” is level-headed very intelligent and spicy. The most memorable acting comes from Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Victor Garber. The film did receive an Oscar nomination for Best Unusual Glean. Memorable scenes in the film include Cynthia on her balcony, her funeral, the trio at the restaurant, Elise visiting Bill’s office, Annie’s visits with Dr. Leslie Rosen, Morty’s commercial, Shelly with Gunilla, Morty’s apartment, the auction, the fight, Annie’s steal, Chris’ announcement and the closing scenes. Other memorable characters include Annie’s mother Catherine MacDuggan (Eileen Heckart, 1919-2001), Dr. Morris Packman (Prefer Reiner) and Brenda’s son Jason (Ari Greenberg), as well as cameos by Ivana Trump, Kathie Lee Gifford, Gloria Steinem and archaic NYC mayor Edward I. Koch. Olivia Goldsmith also made an unaccredited cameo. Overall, I rate “First Wives Club” with 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a fun film that both women and men can bask in, though women may delight in it more since the men in the film are the awful guys.

Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton & Bette Midler work wonderfully together in this movie, and they each play their characters to the hilt!!!
The gist of the movie is that these women were all tremendous friends during their teen years but had lost touch through the years. The suicide death of one of their “group” brought them all together once again. While catching up, they realized that they were all going through similar situations in their marriages – they were all being cheated on by their husbands!

Too poor I didn’t read the other reviews before buying this. It doesn’t really say mighty about naturism, but is supposed to be about one guy’s attempt to build a naturist movie, interviews with potential actors, etc. It’s very disconnected, and the copy I got kept repeating after scene 11, even though there was a scene 12. Terrible value, in my view.
This is supposed to be about upright nudism. However it’s fair a bunch of paid actors with a Unsuitable script. About 1/10 of the movie actually gets into the history of nudism, and interviews the owner of a nudist resort, but that’s about it. Everything else if not at all about nudism. If you objective want to survey a couple of naked people, then go ahead and accept this, but if you’re actually alive to in something that’s truly about nudism/naturism, then don’t bother with this.

It is so gratifying to finally peek a major motion narrate made about the WWII Russian Front. After all, it was the Red Army that inflicted 80% of Germany’s total casualties in the war, a fact that many Americans remain sadly ignorant of. It is high time we score past Icy War attitudes and pay tribute to the heroism of the Soviet Union in its bitter but ultimately triumphant struggle against Nazism. _Enemy at the Gates_ is a movie of chronicle proportions, featuring suited overall performances by a solid cast as well as a spectacular cinematic recreation of the bombed-out city of Stalingrad.
Still, the movie tends to budge at times, and could have been worthy better. The adore triangle subplot was more of a distraction than anything else, taking up time that could have been better aged to pronounce more of the awesome memoir of the battle of Stalingrad as a whole. Rather than simply having the German commander station, “These snipers are demoralizing my people,” it would have been nice to have actually “seen” a itsy-bitsy bit more of how the actions of Zaitsev and the Soviet snipers wore down the vaunted German infantry. Regrettably, the duel between Zaitsev and Koenig seemed to be taking residence in a separate reality than the war itself, almost giving the impression that both sides had an unwritten agreement to let the two rivals shoot it out without interference. Also, the abrupt ending gave no explanation as to how the Red Army, seemingly on the ropes throughout the movie, suddenly emerged victorious. It would not have taken worthy film time to interpret how this came about: the tenacity of Stalingrads defenders drew the mechanized German forces into costly city fighting, allowing the Red Armys grand reserves massed to the north and south to punch through the archaic Axis flanks and encircle the Germans. Saving Private Ryan succeeded in telling remarkable of the sage of the Normandy invasion in a diagram that neatly complimented the movies region. I wish that Enemy at the Gates had made more of a similar pains.
I know that dramatic license is a fact of life with historical movies, but it is design overdone in this one. The opening sequence of the Volga crossing is grand filmmaking and is mostly factual up until Zaitsev and his fellow soldiers enter the city. The following piece about only every other man receiving a weapon and being sent of in a suicide charge is purely the stuff of epic, though, more fitting of the WWI Russian Army or a Soviet punishment battalion. The reality was that the Red Army in Stalingrad fought mostly in miniature detachments armed with submachine guns rather than rifles, interesting stealthily amongst the rubble and ambushing the Germans in brutal house-to-house fighting. This sort of close-quarter combat, where the front lines were often separated by less than 20 yards (or even a mere hallway or staircase), would have played out on shroud unbiased as well (better, in fact) as the charge of the Red horde that is the stuff of favorite imagination rather than factual history. The conclusion of this scene is misleading, as well. The Soviets did shoot many deserters who attempted to soar the front lines, but this degree of harshness did not apply to survivors of a failed attack as shown in the film. The commanders of the Red Army were often brutal towards their men, but not quite that brutal. As for the diagram the sniper duel is finally brought to a end, with Koenig walking good in boring belief towards what he suspects is the area where he has unprejudiced shot Zaitsev tiring,, it is unbiased ridiculous. Not even a rookie sniper would have made such a fatal error, remarkable less an instructor.

The Soviet characters all allotment the names of valid people, but none are factual to their real-world counterparts. Vassili Zaitsev was more of a natural leader than the movie gives him credit for, not fair a stupefied boy from the Urals reluctantly pushed into the limelight. Danilov, the political officer, appears to have been crafted by the screenwriters almost solely in order to fabricate a faddish shimmering statement about the pitfalls of Communist idealism. The genuine Danilov was shot (though not fatally) when he foolishly stood up to point out Major Koenigs position to Zaitsev, not in an act of suicide. Tania Chernovas on-screen character was the furthest from reality, though. She was actually a short, peevish blonde who had previously fought as a partisan in Byelorussia and the Ukraine. A faded killer by the time she arrived in Stalingrad and possessing a single-minded hatred of the Germans, the real-life Tania could hardly have been more different from the sensitive student/soldier who never actually fires her rifle once throughout the whole film. Also, Chernova was likely Ukrainian, not Jewish (only worth noting because of the widespread story that most Ukrainians welcomed the Nazis as liberators from Soviet rule) . Ironically, the character that seemed truest to reality was Major Koenig, a shaded figure who some historians claim might never have existed.
Though I veteran most of the station here to criticize this movie, I guess the fact that I bought the DVD means that I nonetheless enjoyed it. I probably would have rated it better were I not such a Russian history buff. Do yourself a favor and pick the time to read both _Enemy at the Gates_, by William Craig (a very readable non-fiction fable of the whole Stalingrad campaign) and _War of the Rats_, by David Robbins (a novelized version of the sniper duel that is both a better sage and closer to historical fact than this movie was) . My main regret is that the films potential was largely squandered to beget room for unneeded political rhetoric and melodrama. I only hope that its mediocre performance will not discourage film producers from backing other Russian Front projects in the future.
After many major Hollywood epics about the war on the Western Front (THE LONGEST DAY, PATTON, A BRIDGE TOO FAR, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN), it is long overdue that ENEMY AT THE GATES, centered on the pivotal battle for Stalingrad, should play to audiences … particularly American audiences.
The core of the station is the personal duel between two expert snipers, the Red Army’s Vasily Zaitsev (Jude Law) and the German Wehrmacht major, Koenig (Ed Harris), the latter brought into the Stalingrad cauldron to waste the old-fashioned before he totally destroys the morale of the German troops trying to consume the city. It’s a cat and mouse confrontation depicted with startling realism, though, in this case, the mouse is unbiased as deadly as the cat. The rest of the film is impartial window dressing, especially the sappy fancy triangle between Zaitsev, political commissar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), and a female Red Army sniper, Tania, played by Rachel Weisz.

The film, situation among the rubble and destroyed factories of Stalin’s city, is visually gorgeous. The performances of Law, Harris and Fiennes are obedient, as is that by Bob Hoskins, who plays Joe Stalin’s political representative on the scene, Nikita Krushchev. My complaints center on the accents of the main characters, which don’t sound Russian by any stretch of the imagination, the previously-mentioned and totally superfluous treasure fable, and the fact that the Krushchev is given scheme too worthy conceal time at the expense of the Russian general, Chuikov, who doesn’t even appear, even though he was the Red Army’s military commander whose gritty defense of the city ultimately prevailed.
This yarn of the duel between Zaitsev and his German nemesis is based in fact, though a better telling of the yarn is the work of book fiction, WAR OF THE RATS, by David Robbins. If you’re involved in this footnote to the Stalingrad struggle, the book is a “must”, and the film will abet as superb visual reinforcement.
